FEW Virtual Leadership Summit: Passing the Torch and Leading the Way

FEW Virtual Leadership Summit: Passing the Torch and Leading the Way

For the sixth consecutive year, Management Concepts was proud to be an Emerald Sponsor of the Federally Employed Women (FEW) National Training Program (NTP), which was held virtually for the first time July 20-24, 2020.

This year, we had the pleasure of working with FEW’s National Award Chair, Jeri Peterson, and FEW President, Karen Rainey. Together we provided two training sessions and announced the winners of the FEW/Management Concepts Leadership Scholarship.

The FEW/Management Concepts Leadership Certificate Program helps participants gain the knowledge and experience they need to prepare for new leadership roles successfully, increase emotional intelligence and engagement capabilities, handle complex problems, and lead change. This is a highly competitive process, and we had some very good applicants to choose from, which made selecting the award recipients a tough decision.

I would like to share a few words from the winners’ essays:

Paulena Blalock from the Department of Homeland Security, Citizenship and Immigration Services shared:

  • I enjoy having the opportunities to give back to others
  • I am a proponent of continuing my professional development as my career progresses
  • What’s next? I decided to pursue more. More training, more responsibilities, more opportunities to contribute to the agency

Anita Gonzales-Evans from the Department of the Interior, Office of the Special Trustee for American Indians, shared:

  • Transformation and change are difficult to start and to embrace in life and at work. However, I believe I am ready to empower myself to take the path and make a positive impact on my organization.
  • By being proactive and putting myself out there, I believe I am setting the path to passing the torch to lead the way for other young women and men in our organization by empowering them to get involved and make a difference.

At Management Concepts, we are proud to present these awards. We hope that the certificate scholarship programs help these women along their journeys of excellence to achieve their leadership goals.

Other FEW-NTP attendees were able to build skills through our virtual training courses. Management Concepts Instructor, Angela Kochuba, taught our two-day leadership course which strengthened participants’ leadership skills toward career advancement in building relationships through collaboration, cultivating motivation and engagement, managing change, and mentoring.

Another Management Concepts Instructor, Karla Williams, taught our new acquisition and contracting course, Procurement Innovation—FAR Flexibilities. Her presentation explored underutilized and new strategies and provided practical tools for participants to apply them.

Participants in these courses received a joint FEW/Management Concepts certificate of attendance.

We are also extremely happy to continue our strategic partnership with FEW through events, resources, training, and more, and we look forward to next year’s conference! Stay safe and stay connected.
