Shaking Things Up at the SEA Government Executive Change Makers Summit

The Senior Executives Association (SEA) premiere annual event took place online December 5-9, 2022 for the third year in a row, dubbed the Government Executive Change Makers Summit for this year. Management Concepts was pleased to support the event as a Silver Sponsor. The Summit provided educational and networking opportunities for leaders in federal government, with support from the Partnership for Public Service and certificates Provided By Yale School of Management and American University Key Executive Leadership Program.

In addition to the illustrious plenary speakers from across government, academia, non-governmental organizations and private industry, the Summit included many breakout sessions with knowledgeable panelists. Many of these sessions focused on organizational strategy, leadership styles, effective communication, emotional intelligence, and the need to keep pace with the changing landscape of the federal workforce.

One such session, “Cultivating America’s Federal Workforce of Today & For Tomorrow,” was moderated by Debra Eshelman, managing director at Management Concepts, with distinguished panelists Kim Scarborough, Associate Director, Food and Drug Administration Center for Devices and Radiological Health; Javier E. Inclán, Assistant Inspector General for Management and Chief Information Officer, National Science Foundation Office of the Inspector General; and Glorimar “Glo” Maldonado, Diversity Program Manager, U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. The session focused on diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility (DEIA) in recruiting and hiring in the federal workforce. These speakers — all members of the National Council of Hispanic Employment Program Managers — pointed out that a sometimes untapped resource in these efforts included cultivating relationships with employee resource groups and minority affinity associations. At the Management Concepts virtual exhibit booth, conference attendees browsed resources designed specifically for federal leaders to hone all of the skills addressed throughout the Summit. These offerings include acclaimed leadership programs tailored for those at the highest levels in government, developed through Management Concepts partnership with The Center for Creative Leadership (CCL®).
