The Management Concepts Partnership Appreciation Event and Holiday Charity Social was a Smashing Success
It was a brisk December evening last night as more than 150 attendees made their way to the City Club of Washington for Management Concepts Partnership Appreciation Event and Holiday Charity Social.
As Management Concepts staff and guests enjoyed their evening of refreshments, networking, and festivities, they joined together in support of So Others Might Eat (SOME), an interfaith, community-based local charity that helps people who are experiencing homelessness and extreme poverty find pathways toward long-term stability and success. The donation drive, which included matching funds from Management Concepts, raised more than $2,800 in cash and gift cards in addition to donations of food, clothing, toiletries, and other essentials of daily life.
The evening began with guests networking before several representatives of the organizations in attendance spoke:
Katara Coates and Leora Ibraheem of SOME thanked the guests for their generous donations. They talked about SOME’s work supporting people who experience homelessness and poverty by providing for daily needs, healthcare, social services, job training, and housing. “Whether the need is a hot meal or shower, a solid pair of shoes, or non-perishable items to help feed a family, SOME is here to help.”
Tom Dungan III, Steve Maier, and Michelle Clarke thanked all of the guests for attending and recognized Management Concepts partners for their crucial role in raising awareness and exploring solutions for issues of concern to civilian public service workers and the military. Steve has been a proud supporter for SOME for many years and appreciates their commitment to “taking care of people here in our own back yard.”
At the National Grants Management Association (NGMA) booth, guests were able to learn about their work providing tools and resources for grants professionals. Andrew Goldschmidt also spoke briefly about NGMA’s work and their partnership with Management Concepts.
Karen Rainey spoke about how Federally Employed Women (FEW) advocates for improving the status of women employed by the Federal Government and by the District of Columbia government and invited guests to visit their booth to learn more.
Stephan Matthews of Blacks in Government, NOW Generation (BIG NOW) spoke about BIG’s commitment to promoting the well-being of government employees on issues of equity, excellence, and opportunity in the workplace through advocacy, education, training, legal and financial support. He further described how the NOW Generation program supports professionals under 40 as they strive to attain leadership and achieve success in Federal, state, and local government services.
Sehar Minhas of Young Government Leaders (YGL) spoke about the ways YGL seeks to educate, inspire, and transform the current and future leaders of government as a coordinated voice and community of leadership.
Jason Briefel of Senior Executives Association (SEA) explained how they advocate the interests of active and retired Federal Government career leadership corps as well as promote ethical and dynamic public service.
Terry Gerton of the National Association of Public Administration (NAPA) spoke about how NAPA strives to solve the most critical management challenges by providing expert advice to government leaders in building and managing more effective, efficient, equitable, accountable, and transparent organizations.
Rhonda Carter of Training Officers Consortium (TOC) discussed how they build and reinforce the strength of the community of Federal training professionals through professional development programs and networking forums about crucial issues affecting them in an ever-changing workplace.
After hearing from all the speakers, guests enjoyed hors d’oeuvres, desserts, and drinks while the raffle winners were announced, and prizes were awarded. Guests spent the rest of the evening in relaxed conversation, exploring converging interests among a broad range of public service workers and supporting organizations.
